I'm using this year's NaNoWriMo as an opportunity to get a huge chunk of work done for my screenplay. I intend to write my scene outline, then write each scene as a short story, using as much information and detail as I can. I plan on using all the research that I have accumulated over the past few months to create the world of the Battle of New Orleans and to make the real participants interesting, vital and alive so that audiences of today will be intrigued with this story that played such a huge role in the shaping of the United States.
While I understand that the goal of the program is to write a novel, in that style, I am using this opportunity to force myself to get work done. I may, should the Battle muse not be with me, write fan fic. Maybe. But I ultimately am just trying to get words on the page, get back into the swing of writing in large quantities, and because there were a few companies interested in the story when I went to the Screenwriting Expo, I need to get this done and on paper.
I'm making this public because I think that by telling others my goals and desires, it may be easier for me to force myself to keep them. People can see what I am or am not writing and if I can't get the words out, that will be embarrassing.
So, there we are.
