"I was trained by the best. British Intelligence. In retrospect, I would rather have been a poet. Or a farmer."
- John Mason (Sean Connery), The Rock
I love The Rock. It's such a cheesy, bad movie and there's nicholas Cage in it but the Sean Connery Factor just rocks my world. Plus, the score is amazing. I have two versions of it- cassette and on CD, plus have moved it to my iPod. I mean, I turned the TV on and while the tube was heating up, I could hear but not see and I knew in literally two seconds that I was watching The Rock.
"Your best? Losers always whine about 'their best'. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen."

Wow, Sean Connery and Ed Harris together, acting the hell out of that scene. Love.
I've been home sick for the past two days. Bad, bad cold. Pretty sure that the twins got me sick. I'm hoping to go back to work tomorrow as the two days I've spent at home have been unpaid. I'm okay with that, to a point, because I have my year-end bonus and my tax return. But three days is too much and I'm feeling pretty good right now. I have one more day before my actual days off so shouldn't be too bad.
"Which brings me to another question. You broke out, let me see if I can get this straight. You went down the incinerator chute, on the mine car, into the tunnels into the power plant, under the steam engine- that was really cool, by the way- and into the cistern through the intake pipe but *cough cough* how in the name of Zeus' BUTT HOLE did you get out of your cell? I only ask because in our current situation, well, it could prove to be useful information MAYBE!"
- Stanley Goodspeed, The Rock
I figured out the ending of my screenplay on vacation. I have found a way to save everyone but the bad guy, which was my problem. No one wants to see the characters they love dead and in an adventure story, esp. one with a romantic twist, that would be a real bummer. So, yeah, found a way to save them all.
I understand that this particular screenplay will never get made. It's more a spec to show what I can do as a writer but I need it to be the best I can possibly write to get representation and possibly jobs after the strike is over. The goal right now is to have it ready to submit to Coverage Ink on March 1. I'm not sure how plausible that is now, with the changes that I need to make to keep my characters alive but we'll see.
I'm excited about this story, about these characters and the longer I've worked with them, the more real they've become to me. My new ideas- at least I hope- will flesh out these characters and make them really hit on the page so that people will want to read the whole thing, will want to know what happens next and will worry along with them about their fates. I hope.
On a different note, has anyone seen the preview for the new HBO movie John Adams? that pinged all my kinks but hard. I've wanted an awesomely good American Revolution film for a long time, ever since
geek_mentality saw The Patriot. The trailer, the posters, the story just works for me and I can't wait to see what HBO did with it.
