First rain in LA in a long time. Bear and I were going to venture out for a movie and desert but decided that the first rain was too dangerous a time to be out and about and just ordered pizza.
Getting caught up on TV watching- how did I miss Freaks and Geeks? I have a crush on Seth Rogan and his sideburns. He's like David Boreanis' thuggish (less attractive) younger brother. It's the snark. It gets me every time.
Also getting caught on on Friday Night LIghts. What a great show. I got the DVD's through Netflix on the weight of the rec's from the fine folks here and I was not disappointed. I love Matt Saracen. Love him. Coach's wife? I have a serious girl crush on her, as well as Tyra. I look at her and imagine if that's what Jess was like, right or wrong. I know that I'm getting on this train a little late but am I the only one who sees Jason/Tim?
Does anyone have any FNL rec's to offer up? I'm willing to read anything you folks think is rocking.
Had some class drama, we'll see how it plays out. I'm enjoying learning but after my conversation with Morgan this afternoon, I am reminded that there is a reason that great schools are hard to get into and cost way more than community colleges. The difference in quality of education given and the people teaching is huge. I love learning and I am truly thankful for any opportunity presented as a resident of the fine state of California but holy crap, man, I have never seen as many typos in a coursepack in my life. And the lack of concern is mind boggling. *le sigh*
I may be stressing because I am not the world's biggest fan of Greek and Roman history. I'm more of a Holy Roman Empire kind of girl. The Reformation, the Black Death, The Crusades- bring it. Caesar and Aristotle? Not so much. No matter, we'll be on to more interesting (to me) things in a few weeks.
Writing news, I've been working on a few things. Have a SPN fic in the works, part one currently in beta (thanks
geek_mentality and
als_wonderland). Am working on not one but two novels, one that I created the original idea and characters for when I was in the 9th grade, as well as editing and revising two screenplays and trying to get a first draft out on a third. Some people would say focus but with the limited time I have to actually write, I use whatever inspiration I have and go with whatever story is talking to me.
Does anyone know anything about archery? Just curious.
Also, how dark is too dark in a novel? For all those readers out there, is there something that squicks you to the point that you can't read any further? Is there anything that pushes your buttons to the point that you have to point the book down? Are there places that you prefer your books not to go, even if you'll still read it?
Conversely, is there something squicky that you *want* to see in a novel but haven't? Are there things in fics that you wish would be in actual published novels? Are there kinks that you wished were more mainstream and not just in weird vampire/werewolf novels?
Comment me baby- I'd love to hear any and all squicky things. I ask because I have come up with some stuff that is a bit squicky for me and yet it pushes my buttons in the right way. I may pursue it for my own edification but it is part of a story that I thought I could sell at one point as a novel. Just wanted to know if my nearest and dearest would get freaked out or if this might just be your cup of tea.
Also, this just in. I will be attending Wincon. I am so excited- I didn't think it would work out. I was all bummed that it woudl be in the city that I live in but I couldn't get the money in time for the deadline. Well, someone who had a ticket could not go and I am taking her spot. Thank you so much,
dubiously.
Anyone who is also going to be there, let me know and we can meet. Yay!
